Tesco ban Uzbek Cotton

Submitted by Steve on Sunday, 24 February 2008No Comment

A little behind the door on this one as I have only just embarked on this blog, but important to mention none the less. Tescos ban on all cotton sourced from Uzbekistan is a major break through, and possibly a landmark moment. People are aware of injustice, pollution, and child labour, but the majority of consumers when presented with great value for money products in their local supermarket, don’t make the association. We don’t really imagine a major supermarket chain would support forced child labour, and we don’t imagine for a second that in buying these goods we are supporting it too! Thankfully there are people like ejfoundation who are dedicated to raising our awarenes, and people within our own industry like continental who lead the way in developing and promoting the alternatives..
