Moving wordpress to a new server

Submitted by Steve on Tuesday, 9 September 2008One Comment

Amazingly enough and with virtually no hiccups I somehow managed to move the blog to a new server and upgrade to wordpress 2.6. The wordpress helpfiles at http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress covered the PHP admin, database advice etc. and is spot on, I know very little or nothing about databases but everything seems to have arrived unscathed, ( except one comment during the transfer, sorry Jon ). I like the new gravatar feature, and the layout of 2.6 is a big improvement on my 2.3 version. Mind you, after having said all of the above, I would not want to repeat the process any time soon, I realise the importance and value of the database 80 posts in and will make the effort to backup everything on a more regular basis.

Glad to hear it went well with little discrepancies.

At least you didn’t have to deal with Blogger to Wordpress. THAT sucks, particularly since everyone says something different and the approaches clash, or the info is a year out of date. Or the solutions can’t be done because of decisions you made when you set up your old blog, months ago. It is a real mess.
